Therapeutic Approach

I am a conventionally trained integrative counsellor delivering talking therapies 1-2-1. I favour a humanistic approach basically meaning I try to put the client and their decisions at the centre of what I do. What I would call being client led. When you work with me you will dictate the pace and content of our sessions and I am here to hold and support you as we work through different issues together. Beyond traditional talking therapy I have a toolbox of different techniques we can use as appropriate and desired by the client.

I do not aim to tell you how to live your life but to walk beside you on your journey towards a more sustainable or fulfilling life.

Alongside traditional counselling I like to get outside or at least consider in our work the natural world. There are so many lessons we can learn from nature and simply by being more present and grounded outside we can reap benefits that reinforce and go beyond those of our traditional therapeutic work.

We might for example look at the life cycles of the natural world or the passing of the seasons when working with grief or anxiety around death or climate change. I have often found that when able and if the client wishes to, leaving the therapy room can reap huge benefits. Moving to more natural ground, embracing the unpredictability of the weather and just moving as we talk can all have a positive impact on the therapeutic relationship and ultimately on results.

I believe very strongly in the importance of the relationship between client and counsellor which is why I offer a free initial phone/online chat before commencing any work. This gives both of us the opportunity to asses whether we can work together and if this is not the case I will try to refer you to one of my capable colleagues.
