About Me
I am a qualified integrative counsellor with a passion for the outdoors and the natural environment. I initially trained as an environmental scientist but looking to be outside more I made my hobby: gardening my fulltime job. I have worked with various gardening and environmental charities over the years using my skills to help others explore and improve their mental health. This has involved working on projects with the homeless, using gardening to create ownership and build community and a safe space to talk. I have worked with the NHS delivering horticulture therapy to patients with personality disorders.
I reached a point where I wanted to help others and put my listening skills and empathy to good use I retrained formally as a counsellor. Seeing so many around me struggling with mental health worries and not knowing what I should do encouraged this change. I now work with young people and in recovery services. Alongside my counselling work I have worked as an elderly befriender delivering person-centred care to individuals in their homes, a role I am very passionate about.
My enthusiasm for movement, the outdoors and storytelling often find their way into my work. I believe counselling can be so much more than a one size fits all and love trying to find new ways and environments in which people can feel comfortable. There are few things I find more restorative than a walk through the woods, along a beach or over the heath. When the skies allow you’ll find me on my back soaking in the beauty of the night sky or concentrating on an intense pruning session in my garden.
I offer an initial 30 minute session, free and confidential to better understand your needs and for you to get a sense of who I am.
